Knowing the Causes of Hearing Loss
There are a great deal of contributing factors when it comes to hearing loss, some more common than others. But it’s important to be aware of the triggers that may spur damage or rupture.
Inner Ear Damage
As you get older or are continuously exposed to atypically loud noises, the hairs and nerve cells in your inner ear can sustain long-term damage. When these are damaged or strained, high-pitched tones might become difficult to make out and background noise can muffle your ability to hear in group settings.
Earwax Buildup
One factor that may cause temporary hearing loss is a blockage of the ear canal by earwax, preventing sound waves from entering. It’s a quick-fix cause that can be remedied with earwax removal.
Ear Infection or Abnormalities
Infections, bone growths or tumors left untreated could cause you to sustain long-term hearing loss, whether they’re present in the inner or outer ear.
Eardrum Rupture
Loud noises, pressure changes or poking from a foreign object could cause rupture to your eardrum that causes hearing loss.
